Settling Into Your New Home
The boxes are in, the van has gone, and you’ve officially moved — but the journey isn’t over yet. Settling into a new home is an important step in making the space feel truly yours. At Carberry Removals Glasgow, we know the first few days after a move can be hectic, so here are our top tips to help you settle in with ease.
Unpack the Essentials First
Start by unpacking the rooms you’ll use the most — usually:
- The kitchen (tea, kettle, plates, utensils)
- Bedrooms (bedding, clothes, night lights for kids)
- Bathroom (towels, toiletries, cleaning supplies)
This gives you a sense of normality and comfort quickly.
Set Up Utilities and Internet
If you haven’t already:
- Contact energy suppliers to register your details
- Set up your broadband — book an engineer if needed
- Redirect your post and update your address with your bank, GP, and workplace
Top tip: Take meter readings on your first day to avoid billing issues later.
Make It Feel Like Home
Now’s the fun part — personalising your new space!
- Hang curtains or blinds for privacy
- Add familiar décor — family photos, cushions, throws
- Put up some temporary pictures (Command strips are great for this!)
- Light a favourite candle or use a room spray you love
The little touches go a long way.
Explore the Area and Meet the Neighbours
- Take a walk around your neighbourhood — find the local shops, parks, and cafés
- Join community Facebook groups or apps like Nextdoor
- Introduce yourself to neighbours — even a quick hello can go a long way
- If you’ve moved with children, check out local schools, clubs, and activities
Feeling connected helps your new house feel like a home more quickly.
